Tottenham Hotpsur look to get their title hopes back on track after a crushing home defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out. Out to frustrate them will be a Cardiff City side who earned a morale-boosting win at Leicester City on Saturday.

No sooner had Spurs` name been mentioned in the title race conversation than they slumped to a shock defeat at home to Wolves to leave them nine points adrift of pace setters Liverpool. They can reduce that gap to six point (temporarily at least) with a win in Wales.

Mauricio Pochettino`s men have won nine of the 11 away games they have played this season, their only defeats coming at Arsenal and Watford. On their last road trip they strolled to a 6-2 win at Everton and prior to that, they ran out 2-0 winners at Leicester City.

Despite their recent setback, the Londoners will start this game as clear favourites. Their last defeat to Cardiff City came way back in 1961.

History may be against them, but Cardiff will be out to cause another upset on New Years` Day. The Bluebirds ended the year outside of the drop zone and a win on Tuesday could lift them as high as 14th. The Welsh club were hot favourites to be relegated at the start of the campaign, but with half the season gone, survival remains a realistic prospect.

Neil Warnock`s men won three home games in a row before they were crushed 5-1 by Manchester United just before Christmas. They will hope to regain the form that saw them defeat Brighton, wolves and Southampton when Spurs visit on January 1.

Betting odds and tips

Cardiff have had some good results at home, but have yet to beat a top six side in three attempts. Spurs have been strong on the road this term and can be expected to get back to winning ways.
