Bet365 Betting On Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur FC, or Spurs as they are nicknamed by most, will forever be in the history books for being the first team to complete the English League and FA Cup Double (1961) in the 20th century. They were also the first English team to win the European Cup Winners Cup (1963), and the first English Team to win both the European Cup Winners Cup and the UEFA Cup (1972). Along with Manchester United, they are one of only two teams to have won a major trophy in the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s – and will be hoping to continue that sequence by winning a trophy before this decade is up.
The Premier League
Tottenham haven’t been crowned Champions of England since 1961, which was the second time after first being crowned champions in 1951. However, they have only finished in the bottom-half of the Premier League Table three-times since the turn of the century. In the last eight-seasons they have finished 8th, 4th, 5th, 4th, 5th, 6th, 5th and 3rd, and have continued their progression this season under the excellent tutelage of manager Mauricio Pochettino. With Champions League Football in 2018 looking almost a certainty, it will be interesting to see how much money Pochettino is given in the close-season. If he is allowed to buy the players he wants – Spurs could well be a good bet for the 2018 Premier League, and definitely a good bet to finish in the top-4.
The FA Cup
Tottenham have won the FA Cup on 8 occasions, and have a remarkable record of winning 8 of the 9 finals they’ve played in. Their 3-2 replay win over Manchester City in 1981 is still one of the most entertaining FA Cup Finals ever, but it’s disappointing that they haven’t lifted the trophy since 1991. Currently, Tottenham seem more focused on Premier League success and entry in to the mega-bucks Champions League – so betting on Tottenham to win the FA Cup might not be a great bet.
The EFL Cup
Tottenham have won the EFL Cup, formerly the League Cup, four times, with their first success coming in 1971 and their latest success coming in 2008. Their EFL Cup record isn’t quite as good as their FA Cup record though, with four wins and four losses in eight final appearances. They’ve also lost their last two finals, having been beaten by Manchester United in 2009 and by Chelsea in 2015.
The FA Community Shield
Tottenham have won the FA Community Shield on 7 occasions, with their successes ranging from 1921 to 1991. Strangely, 5 of those successes have come when there has been a 1 on the end of the year, 1921, 1951, 1961, 1981 and 1991 – so maybe 2021 will be a breakthrough year for Tottenham.
Europe
Tottenham’s history of early success in Europe may be one of the main reasons why the club is desperate to qualify for the Champions League and, as many of their young squad is used to playing on the International-Stage, Pochettino may well be able to adapt his tactics and gain some success in the coming years, if given the money to strengthen his squad.
